Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Residency

Welcome to The Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency Program at Texas A&M University College of Dentistry.  Our program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Education and has been granted the accreditation status of “Approval”.

The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Commission on Recognition of Postsecondary Accreditation and by the United States Department of Education.

The AEGD Residency is a one-year training program providing professional education at a post-doctoral level. The goal of the program is to expand the scope and depth of the dentist's clinical skills and didactic knowledge in order for the general practitioner to provide comprehensive care to patients in a wide range of population groups. Accordingly, the residency is structured to allow residents to exercise independent judgment beyond that expected in the pre-doctoral curriculum, thus preparing graduates for successful entry into a comprehensive practice environment.

The AEGD program is twelve months in length. The emphasis of the program is on treatment planning and on the coordination and clinical care of a large number of patients with multidisciplinary comprehensive treatment needs. State-of-the-art, evidence-based dentistry underscores all aspects of the program.

The clinical aspect of the AEGD is augmented substantially by a well-rounded didactic program designed to directly enhance patient care. The Texas A&M University College of Dentistry AEGD Residency Program admitted its first class in July 1990 and was granted the accreditation status of ”approval" in 1991.
