Biography
Education and Post-Graduate Training
Jane Cotter currently serves as an Associate Professor in the Dental Hygiene Program at the
Texas A&M College of Dentistry.
Professor Cotter received her Associate in Dental Hygiene from University of Texas Health Science
Center Dental School at Houston, Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Texas Woman’s
University, and Master of Science in Dental Hygiene Education from Texas A&M Health Science
Center, Baylor College of Dentistry. Ms. Cotter is also a Certified Tobacco Treatment Specialist.
She has more than 37 years of experience in clinical practice as a registered dental hygienist. She
provides continuing education courses on Dental Oncology and Tobacco Cessation for registered
dental hygienists. She is also credited for being instrumental in establishing a dental clinic in the
Charles A. Sammons Oncology Outpatient Clinic located on the Baylor University Medical Center
campus in Dallas, Texas.
Professor Cotter is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Texas Dental
Hygienists’ Association, Dallas Dental Hygienists’ Association, Association for Dental Safety,
Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas, American Dental Education Association, American Academy
of Dental Hygiene, and Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society-Beta Chapter.
She currently serves as course director for Research Methods, Applied Research Methods, and co-
course director for Theory of Dental Hygiene I. Additional clinical teaching responsibilities are in
Preclinical Dental Hygiene, and Clinical Dental Hygiene courses I-IV.
