Biography
Education and Post-Graduate Training
Joanne Martinez currently serves as Clinic Faculty in the Dental Hygiene Program at the Texas
A&M College of Dentistry.
Professor Martinez began her dental career as a dental technician at the Naval School of Dental
Assisting and Technology with the United States Navy. She went on to receive her Associate in
Liberal Arts from Chaminade University, and Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene from Texas
A&M Baylor College of Dentistry.
She has more than 20 years of experience in clinical practice as a registered dental hygienist in
private practice dentistry, and 2 years clinical instructor experience at Austin Community
College. She is a United States Navy veteran that has earned multiple commendations for her
military service, including three Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals and the Military
Outstanding Volunteerism Service Medal.
Professor Martinez is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Texas
Dental Hygienists’ Association, Dallas Dental Hygienists Association, Association for Dental
Safety, Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas, and American Dental Educators Association.
She currently serves as clinical faculty in Clinical Dental Hygiene courses I-IV and as the lead
clinical dental hygiene faculty on the Orthodontics rotation.
