Biography
Education and Post-Graduate Training
Leigh Ann Nurick currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor and the Interim Program
Director of the Dental Hygiene Program at the Texas A&M College of Dentistry.
Professor Nurick received both her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene, and Master of
Science in Dental Hygiene Education, from Texas A&M University College of Dentistry. She
also holds a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Dallas Theological Seminary.
She has more than 28 years of experience in clinical practice as a registered dental hygienist in
private practice dentistry and more than 27 years of experience teaching in academia. She
provides continuing education courses on diabetes mellitus, Parkinson’s disease and multiple
sclerosis, supportive communication, patient de-escalation, uses of piezo and ultrasonics, and
education methodology. She is also trained in verbal de-escalation and non-violent physical
release through the Crisis Prevention Institute and is currently pursuing the DANB/OSAP
program to become Certified in Dental Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC.)
Professor Nurick is an active member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, Texas
Dental Hygienists’ Association, Dallas Dental Hygienists’ Association, Association for Dental
Safety, Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas, American Dental Education Association, Special
Care Dentistry Association, and Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Honor Society-Beta Chapter.
She currently serves as course director for Biomedical Sciences II, Comprehensive Care
Seminar, and co-course director for Biomedical Sciences I. Additional clinical teaching
responsibilities are in Preclinical Dental Hygiene, and Clinical Dental Hygiene courses I-IV.
