Scholarships Available

The Texas A&M University College of Dentistry offers the following scholarships:

Academic Scholarships

Scholarships are awarded by the Admissions Committee to outstanding individuals accepted into the DDS program based on academic excellence. Non-residents receiving scholarships receive a non-resident tuition waiver.

Alliance of the Texas Dental Association Memorial Scholarship *

One $5000 scholarship per year is available each spring to D2 students for disbursement in their D3 year. Criteria includes US citizenship, Texas residency, interest in practicing general or pediatric dentistry in Texas, and need.

American Dental Partners Foundation/Carus Dental Scholarship*

One $500 scholarship is available each spring to D3 or D4 students who demonstrate professionalism, teamwork skills, clinical excellence and leadership.

Ausmus Laursen Dental Hygiene Scholarship*

One scholarship for $1000 is offered each spring to DH 2 students. Criteria includes need, academic achievement, and community service. The recipient is selected by the Dental Hygiene department and a representative of the Ausmus-Laursen family if available. 

Betty Scott Scholarship*

Up to three scholarships of $2000 are awarded each year (based on the availability of funds) to D4 and DH2 students to be disbursed half in fall and half in spring of the current academic year. Criteria includes participation in community service prior to and during dental school.

Brasseler USA Scholar Award

This $1000 scholarship is based on the availability of funds each year. It is awarded to a fourth-year DDS student with the highest GPA at the end of their D3 year.

Bush Jones/Sprenger Scholarship

Scholarships of $1000 are awarded annually to D2 students with an EFC less than $5000 and a GPA of 3.0 or greater. No application is needed for this scholarship. The number of scholarships varies each year based on funding.

Class of ‘47

This scholarship of $1500 is awarded by the Admissions Committee to incoming D1 students based on the availability of funds. Award is based on academic excellence.

Dallas A&M Club Scholarship*

This scholarship of $1000 is available to full-time students pursuing a degree from the Texas A&M College of Dentistry on the basis of academic achievement, community service and financial need. In addition, the student must have earned their undergraduate degree from Texas A&M University in College Station and must be a resident of Dallas County, Texas.

Dr. Allan Pearsall Scholarship*

One scholarship of $1500 will be disbursed in the current academic year to a D3 student who has a minimum GPA of 3.25, displays teamwork and leadership skills, and has participated in research projects during pre-dental or dental education, or demonstrates an interest in research.

Dr. Claude R. Williams Scholarship*

One scholarship of $2500 is awarded annually to a D2 or D3 student. Criteria include GPA, history of and continuing participation in community service, and membership in the Student National Dental Association.

Drs. Don and Cindy Le Scholarship*

One $2500 scholarship is awarded annually to a D2 student based on need, GPA, and history of community service.

Dr. Nancy Dickey Endowed Scholarship*

One scholarship of $1000 awarded to a DH1, D1, D2, or D3 student based on the availability of funds. Criteria includes a 3.0 or greater GPA, leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to the community.

Dr. Phuong Nguyen and Cameron Ton Scholarship

This scholarship is for an incoming DDS student selected by the Admissions Committee based on academic achievement and community service.

Dr. Richard Bradley Scholarship*

This $1500 scholarship is awarded annually to a D2 student with a minimum GPA of 3.0, who displays teamwork and leadership skills, and has participated in research projects during pre-dental or dental education, or demonstrates an interest in research.

Dr. Russell Austin Mitchell Scholarship*

This $2000 scholarship is awarded annually to a D4 student with a minimum GPA of 3.0, who displays teamwork and leadership skills, and plans to go into Prosthodontics or Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

Emily A. and Robert Walker Scholarship

This scholarship of $1500 is awarded by the Admissions Committee to incoming D1 students based on the availability of funds. Award is based on academic excellence.

Patricia Kantz Whalley Scholarship*

This scholarship is based on the availability of funds and is awarded to a Dental Hygiene Senior with financial need and is in good academic standing.

PBP Scholarship*

This $2000 scholarship is awarded to students who successfully complete the Post Baccalaureate Program and are accepted into the College of Dentistry.

Ruth Riley Swords, D.D.S. Endowed Scholarship*

Two scholarships of $750 awarded to a DH1 or DH2 student in the spring. Criteria include academic achievement, clinical proficiency, and leadership.

Texas Dental Association (TDA) Smiles Foundation Scholarship

One to two scholarships to a D1 student in the top 20% of the entering class. Criteria include Texas residency, need, and must not have received either the Emily and Robert Walker or Class of ’47 scholarships.

Todd and Stephanie Rough Scholarship*

This scholarship of $1000 is available to DDS and Graduate students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and is based on leadership, professionalism, academic excellence, and public service. 

Scholarships for Graduate departments:

AEGD Departmental Scholarship, William and Jessamine Young Scholarship-Orthodontics Department, Betty Whiteaker Scholarship –Periodontics Department, Dallas County Dental Society Public Health Scholarship-Dental Public Health Department.

The following scholarships are administered by external agencies:

ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarships for Dental Hygiene Students Pursuing Academic Careers

Each year two dental hygiene students receive this scholarship.  Applications are online at Scholarships, Awards and Fellowships for Students

ADEA/Crest Oral-B Scholarships for Predoctoral Dental Students Pursuing Academic Careers

Each year two dental students receive this scholarship.  Applications are online at Scholarships, Awards and Fellowships for Students 

ADEA/GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare Preventive Dentistry Scholarships

Each year twelve predoctoral dental students receive this scholarship.  Applications are online at Scholarships, Awards and Fellowships for Students

ADHA Foundation Institute for Oral Health Dental Hygiene Scholarship

The American Dental Hygienists Association offers multiple scholarships ranging from $1000-$2000 for DH1 students. Criteria include GPA, need, and membership in the ADHA. Applications are submitted online. 

The Dental Trade Alliance Foundation Dental Student Scholarship

This scholarship of $5000 is available to D3 and D4 students. Applications are submitted online and are available in the spring. Criteria include academic excellence, financial need, and a commitment to community service.  DTA Foundation

Herschel S. Horowitz Scholarship

The American Association of Public Health Dentistry awards the annual scholarship, named after the dental epidemiologist and public health advocate whose work centered on preventing tooth decay.  Each public health scholarship recipient is awarded $10,000 for tuition and other expenses.  Information found here: https://www.aaphd.org/horowitz-scholarship.  

NDA Foundation Scholarships

"The National Dental Association offers a variety of Dental Scholarships. Awards range from $500 up to $20,000. The Foundation supports scholarships for the entire dental team including assistants, hygienists, dental students and Post-doctoral students. The commitment of the NDAF is to help ease the cost burden of dental education while fostering future leaders, and providers for underserved communities.”  Additional information can be found here:  https://ndafoundation.org/dental-scholarships.html

The W.R. Hammond Trust Foundation Scholarship

One scholarship is available for D1 students each spring. Applications are submitted online.  The scholarship continues through D4 and the amount each year is based on fund performance. Criteria include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, DAT score, and financial need. 

*You must complete the University Scholarship Application. The application opens October 15 and closes February 1.
